    095ac4a9 bb38 4c8a 995e d1a0b8378c9eAlmost exactly two years ago, Noce Jazz/Cabaret started their Late-Nite Cabaret series. Once every month or so, they feature a cabaret evening with one of Des Moines best theatre performers in a setting reminiscent of New York’s 54 Below and other intimate concert spaces. Their first choice for this experiment was local favorite Charlie Reese, who returns to the Noce stage next week for another musical visit, full of laughter, music, and fun.

    Company stairsThe brand new Iowa Stage Theatre Company makes its debut with a stellar production of Stephen Sondheim’s Company, opening September 22 at the Kum & Go Theatre. There’s a lot of hard work that goes into a show like this, and even more when it’s the opening show for a brand new organization. Iowa Stage is making sure their first steps are the right ones.

  • Crazed Creations

    Img 0394Opening this weekend is the long-awaited DM Playhouse production of the Mel Brooks' musical Young Frankenstein. The beloved Gene Wilder movie is a classic, and the movie has become a fantastic and song-filled laugh fest. Numerous local favorites are involved in bringing this show (and monster!) to life, including Charlie Reese as Dr. Frankenstein and Adam Yankowy as his formerly dead Creation.

  • The Clock is Ticking...!

    Tick Tick BOOM!Local favorite Charlie Reese hits the stage again this week, with Tick, Tick,... BOOM! opening at Noce for a two-weekend run. Directed by Megan Helmers, this musical by Jonathan Larson (creator of Rent) tells the tale of a musician at the crossroads of his life, deciding if the clock has finally run out on his composing career. And time moves at a breakneck pace for Charlie and Megan as well, with all the other creative outlets they have.

  • A Monster Talent

    Img 0388I first discovered the amazing voice and talent of Rebecca Hadley Hunt in a production of Avenue Q at StageWest a few years ago. In a stellar production of some of the best of local theatre, her performance of Kate Monster was still a standout. She'll be appearing this Saturday as the monthly guest artist for Noce's Late-Nite Cabaret (and she's bringing along a couple of terrific fellow performers with her....)
