  • Theatre for the Young in Years

The Kate Goldman Children’s Theatre at the Des Moines Playhouse presents the first new production of 2018 with Elephant & Piggie:  We Are in a Play! The children’s book characters are brought to life with music and dance (and even some audience interaction). It’s a great way for the very young (and their loved ones) to come and experience a show.

  • Becoming Part of That World

    B72fe51a 26cc 4d2e a85e e51cd4dcdc09Disney’s The Little Mermaid is now a recognized classic, and the theatrical version helped start a Disney revolution on stage. The Des Moines Playhouse brings the underwater musical to children of all ages for the month of December. For two stars of this production, this is their first opportunity to be on the Playhouse mainstage, guided by the sure hand of veteran director Maxwell Schaeffer. For the young performers, it’s their chance to be, as the lyric goes, “part of that world.”

  • Music Weaver

    25d88e63 5896 415b 9fff 35bbfd3f0bbeThe Late-Nite Cabaret at Noce this weekend features local favorite Taylor Anne Weaver, performing for her second time in the theatre-oriented singing slot. Taylor has been incredibly busy this year with a significant number of ventures, and now gets to add one more. And while a great many people know how to sing, few can do it as well or as satisfyingly as Taylor. It’s been a part of her whole life, and this Saturday night she gets to share it again with everyone.

  • Creating Choices

    A2679eab 2e85 46c0 968f 9bd939ced4cdKaren Schaeffer is well known in the area as an actress, with starring roles in Calendar Girls at Tallgrass and Steel Magnolias at the Playhouse just within the last year. But quality roles for certain actresses aren't always available, so Schaeffer made a choice to create the kind of parts she’d want to see. The latest result of her playwriting efforts has its world premiere next week at the DM Playhouse, with the appropriately titled comedy, Choices.

  • Knowing the Territory

    Img 708The Music Man is an American musical theatre staple, set in small-town "River City, Iowa" with memorable songs and iconic characters. Movie and television versions of the Tony-winning Broadway classic have made it part of our cultural heritage since it premiered  on Broadway 60 years ago. And now, the DM Playhouse brings it to their mainstage once more, starting July 14.
