Des Moines Young Artists’ Theatre (DMYAT) has been going strong now for a decade, presenting interesting and challenging shows for young performers anywhere from elementary age to those just about to enter college. They’re having a pair of fundraising events to showcase some of their stellar youth alongside a few of the bright lights of other theatre groups here in Des Moines. The show is called Duets, and performances are April 22 and 29 at Noce Jazz/Cabaret.

Des Moines has a thriving musical theatre community, with an amazing amount of talent and opportunity to perform that simply isn’t found in other cities our size. And even if you don’t have the schedule that allows for the time and dedication needed to put on a typical musical, there is still a place to get your showtunes on. Noce’s Saturday Late-Nite slot is a musical theatre lover’s dreamtime, with a chance to be a star yourself.

The Clock is Ticking...!

Local favorite Charlie Reese hits the stage again this week, with Tick, Tick,... BOOM! opening at Noce for a two-weekend run. Directed by Megan Helmers, this musical by Jonathan Larson (creator of Rent) tells the tale of a musician at the crossroads of his life, deciding if the clock has finally run out on his composing career. And time moves at a breakneck pace for Charlie and Megan as well, with all the other creative outlets they have.
